Most Common Type of Pests in Arkansas

museum

Living in Arkansas comes with its advantages, such as beautiful mountains, lakes, and all-around gorgeous views. You are never too far from the city but you are just close enough to the country as well. With those beautiful views and convenient locations comes one major downfall that can be a total turnoff to this gorgeous southern state. The pests that we share our home with. While it seems that we have all kinds of wildlife living among us in Arkansas, we have a few pesky pests that steal the show.

the most common type of termite in Arkansas. They are insects that feed on cellulose from leaf litter, wood, soil and dung. Termites live underground in colonies that have as many as two million inhabitants. They travel through small mud tubes to avoid exposure to the open air. Termites in Arkansas are bad year-round. They show up most heavily in these months

  • March
  • April
  • August
  • November
  • December

So just whenever you think you may catch a break, they are building colonies in your home again. Unless of course, you get ahead of the game by calling Mccauley Services.
While termites do not cause any harm to people or pets, they do cause a lot of damage to your home. We suggest signing up for a treatment plan as soon as you can to avoid the cost of replacing boards on your home or even having to completely renovate due to foundation problems in the future.

Mosquitos

Mosquitos are one pest that we are all very aware of. They do not discriminate by age or gender or anything at all when it comes to who their next prey will be. There is nothing more uncomfortable than being covered in mosquito bites throughout these warmer months

Temperatures drive insect populations and their highest reproductive stages. Year-round protection is the most effective tool against Mosquito populations. Consider our Misting System and our Gold Program to protect yourself and your family from mosquitos.

Fire Ants

Fire ants are small, aggressive ants. They’re easy to recognize by their coppery-brown head and body and darker colored abdomen. Worker fire ants can vary from 1/8th of an inch to 1/4th of an inch in length and have a life span of about 1 month. Their colonies are large and can consist of up to 500,000 ants. Fire ants are most notorious for their stinging behavior. Unlike other small ants, this type of ant attacks, often by the hundreds, when their colony or food source is in jeopardy. A single fire ant can sting several times, leaving its victim covered in painful, red welts.

Fire ants are incredibly aggressive and their sting is painful for days on end. You do not want your kids to get into a fire ant pile. They are most active during these months

  • April
  • July

  • December

Asian Lady Beetles

Asian lady beetles are found living throughout Arkansas, inside of homes and other properties, they are considered to be a nuisance pest. Adult Asian lady beetles are usually red in color, although they can sometimes be orangish, or yellowish in color. They have unique black spots on their bodies and an “M” shaped mark located behind the head. The Asian lady beetle’s body is distinctively dome-shaped, they have a short antenna, and their head can tuck partly or completely underneath their neckline.

While Asian Lady Beetles are not dangerous in any way, they tend to completely take over the spaces they come in contact with and will make your home their home. They are most active in the following months:
