A Simple Holiday Snack Minus The Pantry Pests
November 5, 2012
If you plan to have a lot of company visiting this holiday season then it is always a good idea to be prepared with some healthy and delicious snacks. Here’s one we love because it’s simple, has few ingredients, and is great to keep around for snacking guests.
Pumpkin Seed Dried Cranberry Trail Mix
2 cups baby pumpkin seeds
1 cup slivered almonds
¾-cup raw sunflower seeds
6 tablespoons pure maple syrup
1 cup dried cranberries
Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
Toss together pumpkin seeds, almonds, sunflower seeds and syrup until coated.
Spread the mixture out on the baking sheets and season with salt.

Cool the mixture then add cranberries to complete. (click here for the full recipe page)
Want to make this recipe pantry pest free? Before you take out the food items in the pantry or before you purchase them in the grocery store, you will want to inspect the packaging for any damages or signs of pantry pests. Indian meal moths and other common food-infesting pests likely came from the food processing facility but unfortunately, you may not spot an infestation until you are adding in ingredients.
Keep an eye on your shelved foods and always toss items that are damaged or past their date. And to prevent other pests such as rodents, roaches, or ants from finding your snacks, be sure that you keep your trail mix and other goods stored in airtight containers that will prevent any pests from contaminating them.
