Pest Identification - Ants

What Are Ants?

Ants are a common problem in Arkansas

Found in Hot Springs, Little Rock and throughout Arkansas, ants are social insects that live in large colonies generally underground; although they are known to establish satellite colonies above ground or inside structures.  Ants in Arkansas consist of several species, but the types most likely to be a nuisance are the odorous house ant and fire ant.  Odorous house ants are the small black or brown ants that are often seen marching back and forth between their colony and their food source.  They are 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch in length and are often identified by the rotten coconut-like smell they emit when feeling threatened or are crushed.  Fire ants are reddish brown ants that range in size from 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch and are known for their aggressive nature.

Why Do I Have Them?

Ants are notorious foragers and will seek out food in your home or on your property.  They typically will consume any type of food product,  from common pantry items to dog food.  Odorous house ants are especially attracted to sweet foodstuffs.  Fire ants only food requirement is that it contain protein, fat or carbohydrates.   Areas where moisture is present, such as bathrooms and kitchens are also likely to be infested by ants as moisture is a necessary element for the survival of their colony.

Are They Dangerous?

The odorous house ant is considered more of a nuisance pest, but they may contaminate food and should be controlled.  The fire ant is also likely to contaminate food products but may also sting repeatedly if they or their colony is threatened.  A fire ant bite has a very painful sting and may require medical attention.

How Do I Get Rid Of Ants?

Due to their nature, ants of any species are hard to get rid of.  Eliminating the ants that you see in or around your property is not an effective method of control as these are just the foragers and do not represent the entire ant colony.  Contacting McCauley Services is the ideal way to get rid of ants.  We offer highly effective ant control in Arkansas that is sure to eradicate the entire pest problem.

Can I Do It Myself?

Do-it-yourself sprays and treatments as well as home remedies such as gasoline or bleach are not effective in resolving ant problems and may contain ingredients or chemicals that are harmful to people and pets.  McCauley Services’ pest control professionals are trained in identifying ant infestations, foraging trails and the locating the colony, which may be far away from your homes’ structure and our technicians will implement effective measures to control and prevent future ant problems.

Is The Treatment Safe?

The health and safety of our customers, their families or employees is very important to us and that is why we use products and treatments that are EPA registered for pest control use.  In addition, all of our pest control professionals are registered and licensed by the state or local jurisdictions where we provide service to ensure proper application.
