Pests Are Invading Homes Throughout Arkansas, Why?

Older | Newer

Spiders, cockroaches and many other insects and rodents will invade your Arkansas home in search of relief from the heat, but you can protect your home with the help of McCauley Services

Last month, we blogged about how the extreme heat all across of Arkansas has driven people and pests indoors seeking relief from the soaring temperatures.  Unfortunately, the heat wave rages on and McCauley Services, a longtime Arkansas pest control company, thought you might like to know why spiders, ants, cockroaches and mice are invading your home more often.  We asked Christian Wilcox, our technical director and Associate Certified Entomologist, why the influx of pests?  His response:

“Extreme heat will cause pests to move inward, even more than cold temperatures. Populations are already higher due to the natural breeding cycles of spring and summer-so there are more pests to migrate inward.  An insect’s toughest challenge is to maintain moisture in their bodies. This becomes very stressful with lack of rain and extreme heat. Pest populations will be focused around locations of available moisture, i.e.: a/c drain lines, watered yards, low spots, etc.  Few pests will be able to survive in direct sunlight in extreme temperatures.”

He also mentioned that technicians are focusing their inspections and treatments on shaded and moist environments as well as any cracks and crevices that may be used for harborage from the heat.

If you need help getting rid of cockroaches, mice or any other insects or rodents that may be enjoying the air conditioned comfort of your home, McCauley Services is always just a phone call away, but homeowners can follow a few simple tips that will make their homes much less attractive to nuisance pests including:
