Get Rid Of Mice In Arkansas With Help From AR Pest Control Professionals

The house mouse is one of the most bothersome and damaging pests in Arkansas

The house mouse one of the most bothersome, common pests in the United States, as well as one of the most damaging.  Although mice live and thrive outside, they are considered a commensal rodent which means they share space with us and survive in part because of this close contact.  Homes, sheds, garages, farms and commercial facilities are all susceptible to infestation.  Food, water and shelter are what mice are looking for, and our homes and businesses can provide all three.

Mice are very prolific breeders; a couple of mice in your home can quickly turn into a major infestation if not addressed quickly.  With so many mice running around they can contaminate our food supply with their constant nibbling and droppings and cause structural damage to our homes and out buildings.  They will chew through electrical wiring, posing a serious fire risk.  Mice have been known to make nests in furniture and household items such as appliances, books, and clothing.  They also have the ability to introduce allergens and other serious health risks into your home.  For example, accidently eating contaminated food can lead to salmonella food poisoning.

So how do I know for sure a mouse has moved in?  There are several signs of mice activity:

  • Nests-Usually made of shredded fibrous items such as newspaper, cardboard and insulation and commonly found in attics and other storage areas

  • Droppings- Mouse droppings are small, black and oval bead shaped and are most commonly seen close to food sources and breeding areas

  • Gnawing Marks-The teeth of mice are constantly growing, in order to keep them short mice have to gnaw; wood and drywall are common places to see this damage

  • Strange Noises- Squeaking, running and gnawing sounds coming from the walls and ceilings during the nighttime hours when mice are most active

To help prevent a mouse infestation a few simple steps can be taken to ensure the safety of your home, family and pets.

  • Eliminate their food source - Store people and pet food in tightly sealed containers, keeping trash in containers with secure lids and keep bird feeders away from any structures

  • Inspect your exterior - Inspect your home for small openings and seal cracks in the foundation, holes around utilities and other openings that are bigger than ¼ of an inch in diameter

  • Repair damage - Repair torn screen doors and windows and install chimney caps to keep mice and other invading rodents out

  • Stay organized - Keep storage areas organized and your home free of clutter, mice enjoy the security that cluttered areas have to offer

  • Simple landscaping - Trim shrubs and weeds that are close to your foundation and keep firewood off the ground away from your home and outbuildings
